I have just come across this website http://www.quality-streets.org.uk/ and believe that the condition of our streets is something that we all ought to be thinking about.

I have sent an email to Councilor Mizanur Rahman Chaudhury of Tower Hamlets Council with a few points that I think could radically change the quality of Wilmot Street.

Firstly, it is my view that Wilmot Street should be made one-way. The about of cars that speed up and down outside our houses can get extremely annoying. Even more so when the street gets jammed up and drivers sit shouting with their fingers firmly pressed on their horns. If Wilmot Street were to be a one-way street the amount of noise and Co2 pollution would be greatly reduced.

The second point I made was about the overflowing, disgusting rubbish bins at the top end of the Street by the corner shop. They always seem to be strewn across the pavement filled with open rubbish bags that spill out onto the floor. All in all making for an unattractive and unpleasant entrance to the street.

Obviously these are only my opinions and I’m sure there are many residents who have other issues they would like to raise. All in all I think it is really important that we raise these issues with our councilors and try and get things improved to make Wilmot Street a nicer place for us to live.

      Hi Jessica,

Well done on contacting the counselor. I totally agree with the two points you’ve raised. There’s nothing worse then seeing the overflow of rubbish slowly glide down the street during the day.

But I must admit I’ve seen so many gangs and individuals (old and young) littering the street and speering empty cans on the fence on their way to the station that I don’t think its all the newsagents fault. Perhaps we should be asking for more open bins along the road. I’m sure the street cleaners would rather empty full bins then pick up individual bits. But then I guess some residents might start filling them up with household rubbish as it would be easier then visiting the back of the building. Tricky one.

This is a great little road so lets keep it that way!

    Hi,

I’ve been living on Wilmot Street since October 2010, I love it here!
Sadly my leave has ended and I cannot afford to renew, so I need to move out. Does anyone know if there is another flat on the street available or somewhere I could look out for?

    Thanks,

    Natasha.
